Engineers have created a wonderful invention that enables us to catch and collect the carbon dioxide (CO2) which is let off whilst burning fossil fuels.
By capturing carbon dioxide, we are making sure that it does not go into the atmosphere and make climate change worse. However, the carbon dioxide needs to go somewhere.
Carbon dioxide is a gas so it is tricky to store securely without slowly leaking or escaping. The carbon dioxide gets stored deep underground where it cannot get out, and it is not causing the planet any harm.
Some of the carbon dioxide is even being pumped into the ground into the old oil and natural gas mines. After all, if the natural gas in there was so well contained for millions of years that had to be pumped out by humans, then the carbon dioxide will be secure too!
